This website was established in January 2006, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first dedicated shipment of containers in 1956. The website was initially set up to promote the Gala Dinner, organised by the Container Owners Association, in conjunction with the Bureau International des Conteneurs (BIC), in Antwerp on Thursday 22 June 2006.

Some 330 guests attended the dinner which took place at the Stuurboord, a converted warehouse overlooking the Scheldt - in Antwerp's historic dock area.

This website is now being used to provide information, photos and documents relating to the historty of containerisation.

It includes details of books and films on the first 50 years of containers, together with recollections about the industry's pioneers.
